Advancement Meet the Team Ed Chiu

An entrepreneurial growth leader with 30+ years of experience in higher education and 15 years as a Chief Advancement Officer, Edward Chiu has a demonstrated track record as an accomplished fundraiser and program builder. Throughout his career at both public and private institutions, his innovative approach has led consistently to record success.

Appointed senior vice president at Babson in September 2015, Chiu serves as a member of the President’s Council, providing strategic vision for Babson’s Development, Alumni Engagement, Annual Giving, Advancement Services, Advancement Marketing and Communications, Stewardship, and Events Management teams. Underscoring the importance of his role at Babson, his position was endowed as the Governor Craig R. Benson Endowed Senior Vice President for Advancement in 2019.

Since Chiu’s arrival, Babson has recorded the nine largest fundraising years in the school’s history, with total annual commitments growing from $16.7 million to more than $75 million, including an incredible $91.1 million raised in a single year. Chiu’s vision in planning and executing Babson’s Centennial Campaign led to a milestone $525 million raised after the initial $300 million goal was surpassed nearly four years ahead of schedule. The College has set its aspirations even higher, increasing the goal to $750 million under the banner of Babson Elevates to cement its position as the global leader in entrepreneurial leadership.

This level of donor investment under Chiu’s leadership has had a transformational impact on virtually every aspect of the campus experience, resulting in state-of-the-art facilities, scholarships, increased student and faculty support, and expanded academic and co-curricular programs.

Equally important to Chiu is a high level of alumni and constituent engagement with a long-term view of growth. The rate of undergraduate alumni giving each year has averaged double-digit growth from FY14 to FY24. In this same period, the number of Babson donors across constituencies has nearly doubled. Strategic priorities for Chiu include events and volunteer opportunities for Babson’s global network of 45,000+ alumni, thousands of whom participate each year.

Commitment and impressive results are hallmarks of Chiu’s professional life. He began his career in Athletics at his alma mater, serving as a coach at the University of Connecticut where he helped elevate the women’s volleyball program to its first-ever Big East Championship. After making the transition to the advancement team at UConn, Chiu served in leadership roles at St. John's University, Providence College, and UMass Lowell, consistently achieving record fundraising results.

Chiu has been active in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), having served on the District I board. During his tenures, both the UMass Lowell chancellor and Babson president were honored with CASE’s Chief Executive Leadership Award for their efforts in Advancement, a recognition of Chiu’s leadership and impact. He earned a Bachelor of Science in business and a Master’s degree in education, both from the University of Connecticut.
