AI as an Entrepreneurial Advantage

Babson College sees AI for education as more than a tool for efficiency. It is a collaborator for entrepreneurial leaders to discover opportunities, test new ideas, learn faster, adjust and create value that would otherwise be missed.

Grounded in Entrepreneurial Thought & Action®, Babson prepares students to act amid uncertainty: taking informed risks, experimenting, learning from feedback, collaborating with others, and adapting as conditions change. Our focus remains responsible, human-centered AI use to enable deeper learning and not a focus on faster learning. Babson students learn to prompt, question, and verify AI outputs, combining technological capability with the discernment to shape meaningful opportunities for people, organizations, and society.

Over several years, Babson has built an institution-wide ecosystem connecting artificial intelligence and education. Today, Babson is focused on scaling what works, co-creating with students and faculty, and holding each initiative accountable to real outcomes.

Babson harnesses AI as an entrepreneurial advantage — transforming how we learn, discover, work, and create value while preserving the human ingenuity that makes entrepreneurial leadership vibrant.

How Babson Integrates AI into Entrepreneurship Education

To focus Babson’s thought leadership and application of AI in entrepreneurship across our community, we have identified four strategic pillars to focus our institutional efforts: Community, Academics, Student Experience, Operations.

Community

Central to the efforts to support and enhance our community’s AI competencies is the AI Hub, a one-stop-shop platform that consolidates every AI tool and resource in one accessible destination.

Tools like Babson Chat, Roger AI, Claude Desktop, Microsoft Copilot, AI Grants, and more can all be found on the AI Hub. The Hub removes friction and ensures that no student, faculty member, or staff member is left behind regardless of department or technical background.

AI Resources and Tools

Babson Chat is our own AI Platform. Community members must sign in with their Babson credentials, and anything they type or upload stays inside Babson's environment, so users can work with sensitive data without it going to a third party.

Because we run it, we control how it's configured, which models are available, and how it connects to the rest of Babson's systems.

Roger AI is a suite of AI agents built specifically for Babson students working through entrepreneurial thinking, academic and career planning, and venture development.

Roger connects three core agents:

  • Opportunity and Entrepreneurship Action Planner: supports business idea development, from early research to pitch prep.
  • Career Roadmap: turns career goals into an academic and professional plan, grounded in Babson's Graduate Catalog and Career Development resources, and points you to the right next step, whether that's a course, a coaching appointment, or your advisor.
  • Resource Connector: links to research resources and can initiate a mentor match based on a student's interests and goals.

Roger is built around how Babson students actually work: moving between coursework, career exploration, and building something of their own.

Claude Desktop is an agentic AI application: rather than a chat window that answers questions, it works alongside you across your files, folders, and tools to actually carry out multi-step work. Through this program, the Babson AI Team provisions Claude Desktop for approved applicants using third-party inference through Azure, so your work stays under Babson's enterprise agreements and institutional controls.

Copilot Chat comes with every Babson Microsoft 365 account. Sign in with your Babson credentials and you get AI chat on current models with enterprise data protection, so your prompts stay out of model training. You can upload a file and ask questions about it.

The Babson AI Grant Program gives approved student, faculty, and staff applicants $1000 in API credits to build, experiment, teach, research, prototype, or learn with AI, without hitting a cost barrier.

Academics

Academic innovation is the most strategically significant dimension of Babson’s AI strategy. In FY26, nearly every academic division reported using AI in course design, research, or student assessment. Babson launched the first Applied AI undergraduate concentration, and faculty across Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Mathematics, and the Arts integrated AI deeply into their curricula — marking a decisive shift from isolated experimentation toward coordinated, mission-aligned adoption.

Student Experience

To align the student experience with the ever-evolving nature of AI, Babson is establishing a formal AI Competency Framework — a five-dimension model ensuring graduates leave not just AI-literate, but AI-confident and ready to lead:

  • AI Fluency — baseline assessment and understanding of core tools
  • Responsible Use — ethics, governance, and policy literacy
  • Agentic Literacy — hands-on experience building and directing AI agents
  • Entrepreneurial Action — using AI to build, launch, and create value
  • Future Readiness — alignment with employer expectations and workforce norms

Equitable access is a guiding principle to Babson's student experience: every AI tool is available to all students across all programs, removing any technology gaps that may disadvantage students.

Operations

Babson is deploying AI skills for business across core administrative functions in FY27 — not as a cost-cutting measure, but as a capacity multiplier that allows the institution to serve more people, more effectively, with the same resources.

AI security runs alongside every deployment. Strategic measures connect AI tools to Babson's enterprise systems with permission-aware, governed access — all data stays within Babson's secure environment. Programs provide real-time data loss prevention, monitoring AI prompt submissions and blocking restricted data before it leaves the institution.

Continued Impact

For years, Babson has thoughtfully integrated AI tools and best practices into the co-curricular experience on campus. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and industry leaders have worked together to create a foundational approach to integrating AI into the entrepreneurial process. See what the Babson community has accomplished so far below.

The Writing Center & AI Literacy Lab

Babson’s Writing Center & AI Literacy Lab (WC & ALL) equips students and faculty members with resources and support related to AI literacy questions, best practices to prepare for in-class writing exams, ways to maintain authenticity and voice on LinkedIn, and more initiatives to critically and effectively examine the role of generative AI in all forms of communication and language use.

Since 2023, In an era where AI is reshaping our world, The Generator at the C. Dean Metropoulos Institute for Technology and Entrepreneurship has championed the idea that only interdisciplinary collaboration will unlock AI’s potential and guard against its risks. The interdisciplinary lab hosts workshops, build-a-thons, and an array of events with industry leaders, visionaries, entrepreneurs, researchers, students, and alumni to help the community reimagine what AI can and should achieve.

Faculty AI Task Force

In FY27, a Faculty AI Task Force convened by the Provost and Dean of Faculty — with four subcommittees focused on human sense-making, uniquely human value, curriculum and pedagogy, and future relevance — will deliver actionable recommendations by January 2027.

The task force will ensure Babson's academic AI integration is pedagogy-led, not technology-driven.
