Family Entrepreneurship Peer Forum
A large number of Babson students come from families involved in entrepreneurship.
If that includes you, you may be thinking about what family entrepreneurship means for your own path. You might join your family business, start something of your own, pursue a different career, or explore how you want to be involved over time.
The Family Entrepreneurship Peer Forum helps you understand yourself—your values, strengths, interests, and vision for your future—while also better understanding your family and how you relate to one another. You will build the skills to strengthen those relationships so you can make thoughtful choices and forge your own path.
Whether your family business has nine employees, 900, or 9,000, many of the questions are deeply personal: What do I want? How do I navigate family expectations? How do I build strong relationships with my family while making choices that are right for me?
Drawing from neuroscience, psychology, leadership and family therapy, the Peer Forum will give you the skills you need to:
- Understand yourself, and how you want to leverage your family’s entrepreneurial legacy to chart your own path
- Build stronger relationships with your family so that you can achieve your goals
Over the course of the year, you will learn and practice leadership skills that can help you better manage yourself, strengthen relationships with your family, navigate difficult conversations, and chart your own path in family entrepreneurship.
Each Forum brings together 8 students and a Babson moderator/mentor who helps facilitate the conversation. Through honest discussion, reflection, and peer learning, you will better understand yourself, your family relationships, and the choices ahead of you. Forum members meet once a month for 1.5–2 hours during the academic year. Because the Forum is built on trust, openness, and learning from one another, regular attendance and active participation are essential.
What Our Students Say
I would consider Peer Forum one of the best experiences at Babson. Because we all came from similar backgrounds, the shared experiences were relatable and helped me empathize with and learn from my peers. There were some great insights I was able to take away and apply to my situation. Peer Forum taught me empathy, discipline, commitment and a chance to tell my story and be vulnerable in a safe environment built with trust."
