Jordan Bessette

Dr. Bessette is a Lecturer of French Language and Culture at Babson College. Prior to coming to Babson, he completed his MA and PhD in French and Francophone Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His academic interests and research revolve around representations of gender and sexuality in relation to space. In his dissertation titled “Novel Masculinities: Making Queer Space in Late Nineteenth-Century French Fiction,” he examines how novels during the French Third Republic made space for representations of masculinity that deviated from national rhetoric around “normative” masculinity.

He has previously presented his research at various national and international conferences, including Nineteenth Century French Studies, Society of Dix-Neuviémistes, Interdisciplinary Nineteenth Century Studies, and the Carolina Conference on Romance Studies.

At Babson, Dr. Bessette teaches Elementary and Intermediate French Language courses, including an intermediate-level French Film course. He enjoys sharing his passion for French & Francophone cultures with his students, and discovering new ideas together.
